Last year while chopping some wood down the garage I found this old newspaper (the other side of this page was about Ronald Reagan campaign for the 1981 US elections, not sure how this one managed to stay there all these years…

GeoSearch on Energy Efficiency

Thursday, December 11th, 2008

Mashing-up Spatial Data with localized energy statistics will allow home buyers to geo-search for properties while applying energy efficiency parameters for refining their search results.

With the increase in energy prices together with busier transportation routes, urban properties prices and rating will significantly be affected by the following parameters:

    1. Sunlight and house site angles (Solar efficiency)

    2. Transportation availability to nearby shopping and employment centers (transport cost).

    3. Broadband availability and quality (telecommuting opportunities).

The San Francisco Solar Map is a great example for geo-rating bay houses according to the property’s solar potential and utilization.

Future releases of the RAS Energy Saver mapping solutions will now allow home buyers across Australia and New Zealand to query properties for energy efficiency snd travel time to urban centers using intuitive an mapping solution.

Properties available thorough the Google Maps API and the Street View data set will be now be query able for energy efficiency and utilization.

Coromandel Hidden Treasures

Sunday, October 26th, 2008

I came across a very interesting group during this Labour Day weekend, The Coromandel Heritage Environmental Foundation is currently in its last process of listing itself as a legal trust.

The trust will look for rural Coromandel bush land with historical gold mining traces and will form anmed-nz-goldmine.jpg heritage area for demonstrating gold mining features and monuments.

Potential properties will be listed at the trusts web sites and once approved by the trust members will be purchased and reserved in their natural state while emphasizing mining monuments such as  mine shaft, mining machinery and dams.

The trust will try to reduce introduced pests such as possums while trying to restore the bush back into the state pioneers and gold miners has found it in the mid to late 19th century.

The Coromandel’s bush Fiona and flora together with its historical gold mining remaining will become a significant tourism resource in the next coming years.

being involved with the tourism industry in the last year I am aware of the growing potential of local tourism and believe the region’s proximity to Auckland together with its unique untouched landscape will play a major role as a popular New Zealand North Island destination.

This could promote travel and tourism related green industries within this beautiful region as well.
